Obituary of Jorge Estuardo Alonzo

Jorge E. Alonzo, 60, passed away at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey, on February 6, 2021, after a month-long battle in the hospital with several health complications, including several weeks in the ICU unit in critical condition. Jorge was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on November 14, 1960. He completed his early schooling at Escuela Marista and Enrique Gomez Carrido School in Zone 6 of Guatemala City before moving to the United States in 1979. Jorge started his life in the U.S. as a factory worker in Hoboken, New Jersey, and received his G.E.D. from Hoboken High School. He lived in Hoboken with his mother and other family members for several years. During this time, he met and eventually married his wife, and they had their only child together, a daughter, in their first year of marriage. He already had a son in Guatemala at that time from a previous relationship. The three lived together in Hoboken until their fourth year of marriage, when they moved to Jersey City, NJ. Despite conflicts over the years, they continued to live in the same household together until his earthly departure, although their daughter got married in the summer of 2019 and moved to Belleville, NJ, with her husband. Jorge most recently worked as a concierge for the Echelon residential building in Long Island City, New York, where he was loved by all those who lived there and worked with him. Before that, he had worked many years for an electronics warehouse, Laguna Corporation, during which he fueled his interest in learning computer programs and functions as well as photo and video compilation and editing. Prior to that, he had established his own self-contractor business, George’s Cleaning Service, cleaning offices and a school at night for several years. However, his main hobby and deep passion within the last few years was professional photography and photo editing. He took great time and care to develop his passion and became very skilled with a strong eye for detail. He enjoyed sharing his photography work with others and made many friends through doing so. He became popular among many circles around New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, and beyond, as the official photographer for many different established and aspiring models, musical artists and groups, fashion shows, social groups for charities and cultural organizations, educational groups, and more. He also did private photography for weddings, birthdays, baby showers, portraits, among other requests in association with his fellow photographer friends. He was a generous, charismatic, and easygoing person, and very connected with his family. He was strong-willed and sometimes very stubborn, but he had a good heart. He was a lover of visual design, animals, and Hispanic oldies music, and loved all kinds of foods and sweets. He loved his daughter immensely and was very active in encouraging and supporting her many activities and hobbies, especially in her childhood. He was able to attend most of his daughter’s major events throughout her life, and got to know many of her friends. Their relationship was not without its conflicts as she became older, but ultimately he had great love for his “little girl” and was very proud of her. Jorge was admitted into Christ Hospital in early January due to several health complications, but was later transferred into the ICU in critical condition, where he remained for several weeks. He underwent several major medical processes in hopes of helping his condition and his eventual recovery. His doctors and nurses were actually in admiration of how strong his heart still was despite all his procedures and treatments, and that he was still able to fight for so long in his state. However, his condition was so severe that ultimately his heart gave out. Jorge passed away on his daughter’s 35th birthday. Jorge is survived by his mother, Maria Hortencia Alonzo; his father, Julio Alonzo; his aunt, Delia Ortiz; his sister, Silvia Flores; his brothers, Julio Alonzo and Luis Cruz; his wife for 35 years, Guadalupe Portillo de Alonzo; his daughter Marleny Hortensia Alonzo and son-in-law Endri Skenderi; his son, Axel Alonzo Morales and granddaughters, Katheryn and Victoria; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members living in New Jersey and Guatemala, as well as many circles of friends. He joins in eternal heaven his late aunt, Sara Hurtarte Choché, late brother-in-law, Erwin Flores, late nephew, Luis Cruz, Jr., and late maternal grandmother, Maria Lopez, whose birthday was coincidentally also on the date of his death. ******************************* Obituario para Jorge E. Amaba inmensamente a su hija y fue muy activo en alentarla y apoyarla en muchas actividades y pasatiempos, especialmente en su niñez.
