Obituary of Matthew Jacob Bunce Portillo

Matthew Jacob Bunce Portillo, 33, of Union City, New Jersey, passed away on October 25, 2023. He was born on March 2, 1990, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Javier Portillo and the late Theresa M. Bunce.

Matthew was known for his beautiful smile and great sense of humor. He was truly a shining, brilliant soul. He created a number of short films and had aspirations of being a filmmaker. He was a passionate moviegoer who enjoyed critiquing every film he watched.

Matthew attended Emerson High School, Union City, NJ and went on to further his education at New Jersey City University.

He is survived by his father, Javier Portillo; his brothers, Michael Portillo and Vincent Pikunic; his paternal grandfather, Ricardo Portillo, and his wife Livida; his maternal aunts, Kathy Bunce and husband George Pantozzi, Elaine Rac, Diane Boland and husband Daniel, Michele Cozzi, Anne-Marie Gagliano and husband James; his paternal uncles, Ronald Portillo, Richard Portillo, and Randy Portillo; his paternal aunt, Daysi Guardado; and his thirty-two cousins. Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa M. Bunce, his maternal grandmother, Dorothy M. Bunce, his maternal grandfather, Lawrence F. Bunce, his paternal grandmother, Margarita Portillo, and his maternal aunt, Donna M. Bunce-Aly.

Matthew Jacob Portillo will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His light and passion will forever be remembered and cherished by his family and friends. May you soar to the angels, Matthew. We love you.
